Former President Donald Trump spoke in Wisconsin recently and used strong words against immigrants who cross the border illegally. He focused on those who have done bad things, especially to young women. He also personally insulted Vice President Kamala Harris during his speech.

In his speech, Trump called Harris "mentally impaired" and "mentally disabled." Harris had just visited the US-Mexico border for the first time as part of her 2024 presidential campaign a day before.

Trump gave this speech in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where he showed posters of immigrants who were arrested for serious crimes like murder. His banners had phrases like "End Migrant Crime" and "Deport Illegals Now."

Trump's speech mainly focused on undocumented immigrants, whom he called "monsters," "stone-cold killers," and "vile animals." He is in a tight race with Harris as the election on November 5 gets closer. Polls show that immigration and border control are important issues for many voters.

Trump blamed Harris and President Joe Biden for letting undocumented immigrants into the country. He accused some migrants of wanting to "rape, pillage, thieve, plunder, and kill" American people. At one point, Trump admitted, "This is a dark speech."

His speech came after a Venezuelan man in the US illegally was arrested in September for allegedly hurting a woman and her daughter. During Biden's time in office, about seven million migrants have been caught crossing the US-Mexico border illegally. This number is very high and has led to strong criticism of Harris and Biden from Trump and other Republicans.

When Harris visited the border, she talked about fixing "our broken immigration system." She accused Trump of "fanning the flames of fear and division" about immigrants and their effects on American life. Harris also called for stricter rules for asylum seekers and said stopping fentanyl from coming into the US would be a "top priority."

Trump repeated his claim that his 2020 election loss to Biden was not fair. He said that if he gets elected again and "if allowed," he would go after those he blames for that loss.

Studies usually show that immigrants do not commit crimes more than people born in the US. Critics say that Trump's strong words reinforce negative ideas about immigrants. Trump often talks about young women who were harmed by Hispanic attackers and avoids mentioning cases where the victims are male.

Some of Trump’s opponents say he uses the pain of grieving families to push his idea that immigrants are like an invading army.

However, some families of victims support Trump’s focus on violent crime and the deaths caused by fentanyl. Many parents who lost children to attacks by undocumented immigrants or to fentanyl overdoses spoke in support of him before his speech on Saturday.
