Law enforcement officials revealed that bomb-making materials were discovered in the vehicle and home of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the suspect in the Trump rally shooting. These officials, speaking anonymously to The Associated Press, highlighted the severity of the threat.
Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler. He fired from a rooftop near the venue, killing one attendee and critically injuring two others. The Secret Service shot and killed Crooks during the incident.
Authorities are trying to figure out why Crooks did this. The FBI said they don't know the motive yet. Public records show Crooks had no prior criminal history.
Former President Trump, the leading Republican candidate, said on social media that the upper part of his right ear was pierced in the shooting. This incident has raised concerns about safety at political events and the growing risks faced by public figures.
Crooks' relatives have not responded to media inquiries. His father, Matthew Crooks, told CNN he was trying to understand the situation but would not comment further until speaking with law enforcement. The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover more details about this alarming event.
