The Turkish Center for Combating Disinformation has denied allegations that mine-clearing vessels were authorized to pass through the Turkish Straits to the Black Sea. In a statement released on X, the agency stated that Turkey quickly classified Russia's actions in Ukraine as a "war."
According to a statement, it was pointed out that the parties involved in the war have restricted the access of warships through the straits, referencing Article 19 of the Montreux Convention.
The statement emphasized that Turkey has been implementing the Montreux Convention diligently and fairly since 1936. The statement further mentioned that Turkey has informed its allies that any mine-clearing ships provided to Ukraine by the UK will not be granted passage through the Turkish Straits to the Black Sea as long as the war persists.
Turkey firmly maintains its unwavering determination and principled stance in order to prevent the escalation of tension in the Black Sea, despite inaccurate claims circulating on some media regarding permission granted for mine-clearing ships donated by the UK to pass from the Turkish Straits.
