During the Earthquake Housing Key Delivery Ceremony held at Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University Yunus Emre Congress Centre on Tuesday, President Erdogan emphasized the swift response of the government, which mobilized personnel, equipment, and both national and international resources immediately after the disaster.
The earthquake had devastating effects that spanned from Kahramanmaras to Malatya and Kayseri, and from Adiyaman to Gaziantep, Osmaniye, and Hatay. Furthermore, the destructive impact of the earthquake extended beyond our borders, highlighted President Erdogan.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, a staggering 39,000 buildings were completely destroyed, while an additional 60,000 structures had to be demolished. Furthermore, a staggering 200,000 buildings were severe damage. It became imperative to initiate urgent search and rescue operations in 26,000 of these affected buildings.
According to Erdogan, Turkey undertook the largest search and rescue operation in history, involving over 35,000 skilled professionals from both domestic and international sources. Through a nationwide mobilization effort, Turkey ensured that all necessary services, ranging from security to essential provisions, were meticulously and consistently provided. To achieve this, a remarkable 650,000 personnel were deployed to the earthquake-stricken region.
