On Saturday, Hyderabad authorities demolished the N-Convention Centre in Madhapur. This venue, co-owned by Telugu star Nagarjuna, was reportedly built on land meant for the Full Tank Level (FTL) of Tummidikunta lake.
Nagarjuna was upset about the demolition. He claimed it was unfair and based on incorrect information. He stated they had followed all laws and had stay orders against earlier demolition notices.
Nagarjuna also said they did not receive any prior notice before the demolition began.
The N-Convention Centre is managed by N3 Enterprises, run by Nagarjuna and Nalla Preetham. Nagarjuna shared his concerns on social media. He emphasized that the land is legal and not a single inch of the lake’s FTL was encroached.
He mentioned that if the court had ruled against them, he would have handled the demolition himself.
The actor plans to seek legal help for what he believes are wrongful actions by the authorities. He wants to clear up any misunderstandings about illegal construction or encroachment.
Why was the N-Convention Centre demolished?
The N-Convention Centre was demolished due to claims it occupied parts of the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of Tummidikunta lake. FTL is the maximum area a lake covers, and building is not allowed there. Buffer zones are set up to protect these water bodies from damage.
What does Nagarjuna say about the demolition?
Actor Nagarjuna expressed frustration, saying the demolition was unfair and based on incorrect information. He stated that they had not broken any laws and had a stay order against earlier demolition notices. Nagarjuna also mentioned that no prior notice was given before the demolition started.
What are the broader implications of this case?
Hyderabad’s lakes are shrinking, with a 61% reduction in lake areas from 1979 to 2024, according to the National Remote Sensing Centre. This highlights the need to protect the remaining water bodies. Earlier this year, officials told the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to prevent illegal lake occupations.
What are Nagarjuna's next steps?
Nagarjuna plans to seek legal relief for what he calls wrongful actions by the authorities. He emphasized that the land is legal and said he would have demolished the building himself if the court had ruled against him.
