Agents from the Secret Service spotted and find out a gunman hiding in the bushes near the course's boundary, just a few hundred yards from where Trump was playing, according to law enforcement sources.
The attacker abandoned an AK-47-style assault rifle and other items at the location before fleeing in a vehicle but was apprehended later.
The individual suspected of trying to assassinate former President Trump at his Florida golf club has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, according to multiple news outlets.
Federal authorities looking into the apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Sunday anticipate that a federal court in South Florida will mandate “a mental health evaluation” of Ryan Wesley Routh prior to any potential criminal actions, according to a law enforcement source.
The source indicated that due to many “bizarre rants” allegedly posted online by Routh concerning global geopolitical matters, federal investigators foresee that his mental health will be scrutinized during court proceedings to ascertain his competency for trial.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his shock after hearing about the alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
“Sara and I were taken aback by the second attempt on President Trump’s life and are thankful that it was unsuccessful as well. However, we must not depend solely on chance,” he shared on X.
Here’s what about Ryan Wesley Routh:
Routh is an outspoken critic of Trump on social media, recently commenting on X about the assassination attempt on the former president in July, urging President Biden and Vice President Harris to visit the rally's injured attendees. “Trump will never take action,” Routh claimed.
In 2012, Routh was registered as an “unaffiliated” voter in North Carolina. He participated in the state’s Democratic primary in March of this year, as shown in public records.
Routh faced arrest in 2002 after being stopped by police and allegedly attempting to reach for a firearm before locking himself inside a business. He has also been ordered to pay substantial amounts to plaintiffs in civil cases and has faced accusations from state and federal agencies regarding late tax payments.
Routh voiced his support for Ukraine through many X posts in 2022, confirming his readiness to sacrifice everything for the cause and declaring, 'we must incinerate the Kremlin.' He also traveled to Ukraine in 2022, as confirmed by geolocated images and footage from CNN. In many Facebook updates last year, he attempted to recruit Afghan fighters for the conflict, positioning himself as an unofficial collaboration with the Ukrainian authorities.
Routh mentioned on his LinkedIn profile that he established a company called Camp Box Honolulu in Hawaii in 2018, focusing on constructing storage units and tiny homes. An article in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that he contributed a unit to support the homeless community.
His son Oran Routh expressed hope that the situation has been "exaggerated" and emphasized that his father is not the type to engage in anything reckless, let alone violent. He described his father as "a caring and loving dad and a dedicated, honest worker."
