An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 occurred in Fairbanks, Alaska on Sunday morning at approximately 7:56 AM local time. The United States Geological survey identified the area of impact as Badger in Fairbanks.

Initial information from the agency indicated that the earthquake originated 7.3 miles underground. There were no reports of significant damage or injuries.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake also registered a magnitude of 4.4. However, data suggested that many individuals in the vicinity of the epicenter felt the tremors. No significant damage or injuries were reported. In Salcha, located approximately three miles from the epicenter, the quake was experienced as a slight shaking sensation.

It was located 1 mile northeast of Salcha at a depth of 7 miles. The quake was felt in various areas such as Fairbanks, North Pole, and other interior communities.

The Alaska earthquake center confirmed that it is an aftershock of the M5.3 earthquake that occurred in Salcha on January 19th. It's worth noting that the region is currently experiencing below freezing temperatures.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the risk of devastating earthquakes affecting many regions of the United States is continuously increasing. Through detailed analysis of recent seismic studies, historical geological data, and advanced data-collection technologies, the agency has developed a visually informative map.

This map highlights the specific areas with the highest probability of being struck by earthquakes. The most recent model portrays that approximately 75% of the continental United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, face the potential for experiencing a destructive earthquake within the next hundred years.
