Filmmaker Spike Lee recently shared his worries about former President Donald Trump possibly winning back the White House.
During an interview on MSNBC’s "The Beat," Lee said that this could be a terrible outcome for America. He said, “It would be a doomsday, I think,” if Trump wins the upcoming election next month.
Lee was shocked by how some Americans could still support Trump, especially after he suggested there should be no more elections if he gets elected again. Trump made this comment at a conservative Christian event in July.
He claimed that if voters choose him in November, “everything” would be “fixed,” and they wouldn’t have to go to the polls again. Lee questioned how anyone could be a “true American” and support this idea.
Lee’s worries come at a very important time. He believes the upcoming presidential election could be one of the most important in U.S. history. He said, “This is not a joke. It’s not funny.
This is like life and death.” Lee recently received the National Medal of Arts from President Biden at a ceremony in the White House. This honor shows how important he is as an artist and speaker on social issues.
In addition to talking about Trump, Lee also spoke about former President Barack Obama’s recent comments. Obama addressed Black male voters while campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris.
He pointed out that turnout among Black voters has not been as strong this time as it was when he ran for president. Obama urged people to stop making excuses for not voting and stressed how important it is to take part in democracy.
Lee agreed with Obama’s words. He praised Obama for talking directly to Black male voters.
“I gotta give credit to President Obama,” Lee said. He encouraged Black voters to wake up and understand how important it is to support Harris in her chance to become the first woman president of the United States.
Lee felt sad about the idea that some people might not want to support a woman for president. “It’s sad but true,” he said. He hopes that voters will clear their minds and see that a Trump presidency would not help anyone, especially not Black Americans.
Lee stressed the need for Americans to stick together.
If they’re conscious, if they’re aware, there’s nothing that this other guy can do that’s going to put us — not just Black folks — but Americans, in a better position going forward,” he said.
As the election gets closer, Lee urges everyone to support Vice President Harris. He thinks this election is critical for the future of the country. With so much at stake, he hopes all Americans will realize how important their vote is and choose wisely.
